Project for elderly home care launche

KICUKIRO - “Bird of Paradise Ministries Rwanda” (BPMR) a Christian project designed to take care of elderly people living in Rwanda was, yesterday, launched in Gikondo –Kicukiro District.

According to founder Mary Munyangaju, a UK based Rwandan, the project is a non profitable organization which will help to elevate the lives of elderly Rwandans.

 “Our mission is to care, comfort and relieve the elderly who are in need through residential homes, providing clothing, personal care, and the promotion of social and spiritual needs.

This will include creativity and developing an individual’s interest in what they can do to raise their self-esteem,” Munyangaju said by phone yesterday.

She pointed out that many people were willing to sponsor the project adding that she will be travelling to various countries to look for well-wishers who could help in supporting it.

“The Ministry will initially be funded by sponsors, members and friends of Bird of Paradise Ministry Rwanda and I intend to travel to European countries and other continents to see how I can secure more funders,” she disclosed.

The ministry which has the motto “Aid the Aged”, is currently based in Ingyenzi Cell Gikondo –Kicukiro District, and it intends to acquire suitable space where it will build a bigger house that will accommodate more old men and women.

Munyangaju further clarified that the project will be taking responsibilities of families emphasizing that priority will be given to old people who are totally helpless with no one to take care of them.

The cost of living per person will be about 80pounds, equivalent of Rwf 60,000 -70,000 per month .
